How the Goodwill of Kind Hearts in the USA is Transforming Children’s Futures in Bangladesh

Sometimes, a single decision can change the course of many lives. For Mr. Aflak Chowdhury and his wife, Ms. Samina, who live in the United States, that decision began with a simple but powerful thought—What can we do for the less fortunate children back home in Bangladesh?

As parents of three children, they had worked hard to give their family a life filled with love, comfort, and opportunity. But they knew that for many children in Bangladesh, even the basics like a safe home, three meals a day, or the chance to go to school were luxuries far out of reach. They wanted to do something for the less fortunate children back home. From that goodwill, they began their search on how exactly to do so. And for them, the answer lay in education. They believed that if they truly wanted to transform a child’s life, they needed to begin by providing them with education. They knew that if these children got educated, they would become independent, confident individuals who would not only change their own lives but also the lives of their families and communities. But the question was, how?

Their search led them to JAAGO Foundation, an organisation providing free, quality education to children from underserved communities. And there, they found the perfect way to make a difference, the Sponsor a Child program of JAAGO, through which they took responsibility for the education of 3 underserved children.  

Mr. Aflak shares, “I think we initially started supporting 3 children, and over the years, we are now standing by 9 beautiful kids. The reason behind this long-lasting relationship was the connection we had with the children. We received regular updates on their achievements and marvelled at how their lives are slowly changing for the better. We talk to the children through video calls and proudly witness their journey of growth. Their smiles reassure us that we are on the right path. Now, our own children are adults, and they have also started to sponsor children through JAAGO.”
